Three-fourth gen ins cos show positive earnings in H1

Eastland Insurance's EPS jumps 76 per cent

Most of the listed general insurance companies have showed positive earnings performance in the first half (January-June) of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016.

Consolidated earnings per share (EPS) of 26 companies out of the 35 listed general insurance companies rose up to 367 per cent while nine declined in the first half of 2017 compared to the same period a year ago, according to the companies' un-audited financial statement.

Three-fourth gen ins cos show positive earnings in H1The general insurance companies, whose EPS rose in January-June period of 2017 are: Asia Insurance, Central Insurance, City General Insurance, Continental Insurance, Dhaka Insurance, Eastern Insurance, Eastland Insurance, Federal Insurance, Green Delta Insurance, Islamic Insurance, Janata Insurance and Kharnaphuli Insurance.

EPS of Nitol Insurance also increased in January-June period of 2017, followed by Northern Insurance, Paramount Insurance, Peoples Insurance, Pioneer Insurance, Pragati Insurance, Prime Insurance, Purabi Insurance, Reliance Insurance, Republic Insurance, Rupali Insurance, Sonarbangla Insurance, Standard Insurance and Takaful Insurance.

Among the general insurance companies, EPS of Standard Insurance soared 367 per cent in January-June period of 2017. The company's EPS stood at Tk 0.84 for January-June, 2017 as against Tk 0.18 for January-June, 2016.

EPS of Purabi General Insurance also rose 87 per cent to Tk 1.05 for January-June period of 2017 as against Tk 0.56 for the same period a year ago.

Eastland Insurance's EPS also jumped 76 per cent in January-June period of 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year. The company's EPS stood at Tk 1.02 for January-June, 2017 as against Tk 0.58 for January-June, 2016.

EPS of Pragati Insurance also rose 59 per cent to Tk 1.19 in January-June period of 2017, which was Tk 0.75 in the same period a year ago.

On the other hand, EPS of Agrani Insurance, Asia Pacific Insurance, Bangladesh General Insurance Company, Bangladesh National Insurance Company, Global Insurance, Mercantile Insurance, Phoenix Insurance, Provati Insurance, and United Insurance declined in January-June period of 2017 compared to the same period a year ago.
