Providing urgent relief for flood victims

THE flood situation across the country is worsening everyday due to heavy downpour. Some northern and north-eastern districts have been experiencing devastating deluge which has left hundreds of thousands of people homeless. The situation is going from bad to worse. If the worsening flood situation persists for long, it will turn into a serious situation.

The flood-affected people are already suffering a lot due to scarcity of food grains. They are marooned and have no work to do. As such they do not have the ability to buy food. The government should take immediate steps for distribution of food grains in the flood-hit areas. The ongoing situation should also be closely monitored and prompt action should be taken as and when required so that lives of the people are not further jeopardised.
