Govt arranges programmes to observe National Mourning Day

The government has drawn elaborate programmes to observe, with due respect and solemnity, the National Mourning Day on Tuesday marking the 42nd anniversary of the martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.

The National flag will fly half-mast atop the offices of all government, semi-government, autonomous bodies and educational institutions on the day, said an official handout today. 

The Bangladesh missions abroad will arrange discussions with hoisting the national flag half- mast atop their respective offices.

The President and the Prime Minister will place floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the morning at Bangabandhu museum at Road no 32, Dhanmondi in the city on the occasion of the National Mourning Day. 

A smartly turned out contingent of the Armed Forces will give a guard of honour to the portrait of the Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Museum. A special munajat and fateha also will be offered there.

Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will place wreaths and offer fateha at the Banani graveyard for all family members of the father of the nation and others, who embraced martyrdom with Bangabandhu on August 15,1975.

The premier also will place floral wreath at the mazar of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalgonj. Fateha will be offered and the Armed Forces will again give a guard of honour there.

A special milad mahfil and dua will be held at Tungipara after Zohr prayers on the day. 

In line with the central programme, ministries of Primary and Mass Education, Education, Information, Religious Affairs, Liberation War Affairs, Women and Children Affairs, Social Welfare and Cultural Affairs and other concerned departments, directorates and agencies will organise their programmes at their respective institutions.

Special prayers will be offered at all mosques after Zohr prayers. Prayers will also be held at Temples, churches and other places of worship across the country.

Bangladesh Betar and the Bangladesh Television and private TV channels and radio stations will put up special programmes in observance of the National Mourning Day. 

Newspapers and magazines will bring out special supplements on the occasion.

Besides, posters will be published and distributed among the people while documentary on Bangabandhu will also be screened on the day. 

Posters published on the National Mourning Day will be pasted on the walls of educational institutions, growth centres and other focus points. 

Educational Institutions, Shishu Academy and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum will organise discussions on Bangabandhu's life and works.

The district and upazila administrations will observe the day through doa mahfil and discussion meetings along with national programmes.

Different institutions and socio-cultural organisations will place wreaths at Tungipara and at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Road no 32, Dhanmondi in the city and will hold doa mahfil and discussions there. 

In line with the central programmes, all city corporations, district councils, municipalities and union councils of the country will organise different programmes to observe the day with due respect and solemnity. 

The Press Information Department (PID) has already set up a digital display on Bangabandhu's life and works at the Bangladesh Secretariat while a PID photo exhibition on Bangabandhu is going on at the Department of Films and Publications (DFP).
