Pabna mkts see abundant supplies of Thai guava

PABNA, Aug 12: Thai guava, a tasty summer fruit, is now available in all markets of the district due to its profuse production this season.

According to the agriculturists Pabna is one of the best Thai guava growing area in Bangladesh for its favourable climate, soil and temperature.  

A source from Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Pabna said there are 1,020 Thai guava orchards in all nine upazilas of the district from where around 2,750 tonnes of guava were produced.

The fruit is being sold at Tk 1,200 to Tk 1,400 per maund in the wholesale markets.

Deputy Director of DAE, Pabna, Bibhuti Bhushon Sarker said total output of the fruit is good due to suitable soil and climate.

Thai guava cultivation brings handsome amount of money to the orchard owners. An owner Jahangir Sardar of Bakkarpur village under Ishwardi upazila of the district said he had raised Thai guava orchard on 108 bighas of land and he earns Tk 10 million to Tk 15 million every year.

The many farmers of Ramshsakur, Jaganatpur, Bharimari, Bakkarpur, Srirumpur, Bikadar, Islampur village under indifferent union of Pabna sadar, Ishwardi, Atghoria, Sujanagar upazias of the district produced a massive amount of Thai guava.
