Internet users in Bangladesh surpassed 70 million mark as the first six

months of this year registered 6.72 million new users that took the tally to 73.4 million at the end of June.

According to the latest statistics released by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today, over 93.60 per cent or 68.6 million users browse internet through mobile phone.

Users of Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) increased to 4.62 million.

However, the BTRC data reflected that WiMAX operators are losing customers gradually as their users’ number stood at 75,000 against 0.35 million in June last year.

Besides, mobile phone users of four operators in Bangladesh reached 135.9  million in June.

Market leader Grameenphone took the top position bagging 61.5 million customers followed by Robi after merger with Airtel 39.5 million, Banglalink 31.5 million and state-owned Teletalk 3.26 million customers.

But, the regulator didn't publish any statistics of country's first operator Citycell which is in trouble over payment.
