Robbery suspect killed in B’baria gunfight

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police at Deura village in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria district early Thursday.

Rupak Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Sarail Police Station, said police arrested Mamun Mia, 32, son of one Shafiuddin of Kuttapara village in the upazila, along with three sharp weapons from Nabinagar upazila around 3:00pm on Wednesday.

Later, police along with Mamun conducted a drive in the area to recover looted goods during robbery in the night.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the associates of Mamun opened fire on police in a bid to snatch away Mamun, prompting police to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

At one stage, Mamun caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, reports UNB.

Police recovered one fire arms, two bullets, eight shells of bullets, and two sharp weapons from the spot.

Mamun was wanted in several cases, said the OC.
