Customs intelligence officials have discovered an invoice fraud involving Tk 7.0 million duty evasion at Benapole Land Port bordering India.

They seized more than 25,000 kg of grease and 836 kg of transformer oil after finding that these were imported against 836 kg of grease and 200 kg of transformer oil stated in the invoice.

The value of these imports was put up at Tk 20 million while its tax evasion was Tk 7.0 million, said Sadek Hossain, the director of Benapole Directorate of Customs Detective and Investigation.

C&F agent Gani and Sons Agent tried to unload the grease imported in the name of Mohammadi Steel Workers, Narayganganj.

Benapole Shipping Commissioner Shawkat Hossain said they are stripping the C&F agent of its license and have issued an order to this end.

The customs officials who abetted in unloading the goods and were involved in the fraud would face legal action, he said.

Commissioner Hossain declined to name the officials involved in the scam.
