Seven kidnapped fishermen rescued from Mongla

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard on Wednesday rescued seven fishermen from Shelar gang area of Mongla, who were abducted by forest robbers two days earlier.

A total of 10 fishermen were kidnapped from Kalamula and Harintana areas of the Sundarbans in Sharankhola upazila of the Bagerhat district earlier on Monday, reports UNB.

Lieutenant Colonel M Fariduzzaman Khan of Mongla Coast Guard (West Zone) said they have been conducting drives in Sundarbans in a bid to rescue the fishermen since Monday.

They located two boats of the robbers in Shelar gang area on Wednesday morning and rescued seven fishermen among the 10 abducted. However, the forest robbers managed to flee.

The Coast Guard members also seized two boats, a firearm, two rounds of bullets from the spot and still searching for the rest three abducted fishermen, Khan added.
