FBCCI urges Vietnam to invest more in BD

The country's apex trade body has urged the visiting Vietnamese delegation to invest more in Bangladesh considering the present business-friendly environment here.

It also called upon them to simplify visa procedures for Bangladeshi citizens while making a visit to the East Asian country.

The calls were made on Wednesday during a meeting between the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the visiting Vietnamese business delegation.

President of FBCCI Md Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) led the apex trade body while Deputy Director General of the Africa, West Asia and South Asia Department at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam led his side.

The Vietnamese delegation invited Bangladeshi businessmen to visit the emerging East Asian economic powerhouse.

The FBCCI President apprised the Vietnamese delegation of the prevailing economic scenario and business opportunities in the South Asian country.

He told the Vietnamese delegation that the FBCCI business team would soon fly to Vietnam with an aim to expand bilateral trade and investment between the two friendly countries.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Tran Van Khoa and FBCCI Directors, among others, were present.

The items Bangladesh mainly exports to Vietnam include jute, jute goods, leather and leather goods while import items include machineries, plastic products and textiles items.

Bangladesh exported goods worth US$ 65.05 million to Vietnam and imported items worth $387.65 million during the fiscal year 2015-16, sources concerned revealed.
