Two people have been killed in a truck-pickup van head-on collision at Bahubal upazila in Habiganj district.

Police say the victims are the truck driver and his assistant, but they could not detail their identities immediately.

Shayestaganj Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Jasim Uddin said the truck carrying cement was heading for Sylhet and the pickup van with tomatoes aboard was bound for Shayestaganj around 4:30am.

At the time, the two vehicles reached Duba Bazar area and collided head-on, leaving two people dead on the spot, he said.

According to a government survey, Bangladesh sees 64 human deaths from injuries sustained in road crashes every day.

Bangladesh Health Injury Survey (BHIS)-2016 brought out such startling figure on February 16 of this year, when it was formally unveiled.
