Labourers of 22 tea gardens demand Tk 300 daily wage

SYLHET, Aug 08: Several hundreds of labourers from some 22 tea gardens of North Sylhet valley brought out a procession on Sylhet-Tamabil Highway on Monday to press their 10-point demand.

The demands include raising daily wage to Tk 300 from the existing Tk 85, adequate housing, sanitation and regular rationing.

Later they held a rally at Sadar upazila council auditorium.

Malnichhara Tea Garden Sramik Union president Rotilal Kalwar presided over the rally,  while union's North Sylhet Valley president Raju Goala, Malnichhara Tea Garden Sarder Committee president Dolan Karmaker, former president Sribas Mohali and Khadim Tea Garden Panchayet Committee president Sobuj Tanti were, among others, present on the occasion.

Sylhet Sadar upazila chairman Ashfaque Ahmed expressed his solidarity with the demands of the labourers.
