Local students should get priority in public universities

IT is observed that meritorious students usually secure top positions in the admission test of public universities. Last year, no students were admitted in three departments of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). Only five departments were filled up completely. Two thousand five hundred were successful in the admission test among eight thousand students who got GPA 5.

Obviously, almost all of these students did not pass the admission tests of BUET and other engineering universities. As a result, a large number of students failed to qualify for admission in their desired universities. One of the main reasons behind it is that compared to the increasing number of students seeking admission in universities, number of seats in public universities is not increasing. If a student living in Khulna gets a chance in Chittagong or Rajshahi, it would be inconvenient for him/her to pursue studies.

So, I would like to request to the concerned authorities that priorities should be given to local students in the admission test by providing some extra marks.
