Siddikur eye injury: Police submit investigation report

The police have submitted its report over the probe into the eye injury of Titumir College student Siddikur Rahman.

The report was submitted on Monday morning at Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters, said the committee’s chief joint commissioner (operations) Mir Rezaul Alam.

Though Alam was unwilling to comment on the report, a committee member said that the probe had found evidence of police carelessness and unprofessional conduct.

On Jul 20, students from seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University had taken to the streets to demand the announcement of their examination timetables. Police used teargas and batons to break up the protest, reports bdnews24.com.

The protesting students allege that Siddikur was struck in the eyes by a tear gas canister.

A three-member probe was formed to investigate the injury.

Siddikur initially underwent eye surgery at the National Opthalmology Institute and Hospital for the injury. Doctors initially said he would be blind in both eyes, but it was later reported he had regained partial sight in one eye.

Siddikur is currently undergoing treatment at Chennai’s Shankar Netralaya.
