‘Extortionists’ kill farmer in Jessore

‘Extortionists’ have killed a farmer as he protested their offense at Jhikargachha upazila in Jessore. 

Farmer Omar Ali, aged 55, resided in Harikhali Bazar area. 

His son Mintu Morol said several local extortinists attacked his father around 9pm on Sunday. 

They randomly hit his father with the backside of a machete leaving him critically injured.

Locals went to rescue him on his shout and the gang left the scene detonating some bombs. 

They rushed him to Jassore General Hospital where doctors declared him as dead.

According to the victim’s son Mintu, his father was killed as he (father) had stood against Liton’s extortion. 

Liton led the attack along with Asha, Wahab and Montu, locally known as criminals, he added. 

Jhikargachha Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Masud Karim said he heard of the murder and sent a team to the scene. 

“We will investigate into who were involved in the attack.”
