Customs seizes 25kg gold from a 'sick passenger' at Dhaka airport

Customs officials have seized around 25 kilograms of gold at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport from a passenger who was feigning sick and crossing the green channel on a wheel chair.

A customs official said the passenger, Mohammad Jamil Akter, arrived from Singapore by a Singapore Airlines flight on Saturday night.

"He pretended as an ill person and tried to cross the green channel on a wheelchair," Dhaka Customs House Assistant Commissioner AHM Ahsan Kabir said, reports bdnews24.com.

He said 250 gold bars each weighing 100 grams were found on Jamil's body during a search.

The estimated market price of the 25kg gold is around Tk 125 million, he added.
