Ten cos grab 25pc turnover

Generation Next Fashions tops DSE chart

The top ten traded companies, including three banks, accounted for more than 25 per cent of transactions on the premier bourse of the country on Thursday, with Generation Next Fashions making its way to the top of the chart.

The turnover, a crucial indicator of the capital market, however, declined 13 per cent to Tk 10.78 billion, compared to the previous session.

Generation Next Fashions, Saif Powertec, C&A Textile, LankaBangla Finance, City Bank, IFAD Autos, Keya Cosmetics, GrameenPhone, Prime Bank and Mercantile Bank were the most active shares in terms of value on the Dhaka Stock Exchange.

Of them, share prices of five companies advanced up to 3.27 per cent, three faced corrections while two others remained unchanged, compared to the previous session.

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 33.46 million shares of Generation Next were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 402 million, or 3.73 per cent of the total turnover of the DSE.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 11.60 and Tk 12.30, before closing at Tk 12, gaining 2.56 per cent over the previous session.

Saif Powertec secured the second spot, with shares of Tk 386 million changing hands, capturing 3.58 per cent of the day's total turnover. The company's share advanced 1.25 per cent to Tk 48.70.

"Saif Powertec grabbed the attention of investors following the news that a new battery unit of the company will go into operation on Saturday (August 05)," said an analyst at a leading brokerage firm.

Located at Gazipur, the new battery unit was financed out of proceeds from the initial public offering (IPO) of shares and the company's own fund.

Initially, the estimated production will be 265,000 pieces of battery in the current fiscal year and it will gradually be increased to 650,000 pieces, the company said in a statement on Thursday.

C&A Textile emerged as the third with shares of Tk 354 million changing hands, contributing 3.28 per cent to the total turnover value. Its share price remained unchanged at Tk 13.10.

LankaBangla notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 317 million changing hands, making up 2.94 per cent of the total turnover. The company's share price advanced 1.24 per cent to close at Tk 57 each.

City Bank featured a turnover of Tk 247 million, or 2.29 per cent of the day's total transaction value. The bank's share price fell 1.64 per cent to Tk 41.90.

The turnover of IFAD Autos was Tk 227 million, or 2.10 per cent of the day's total value. The company's share price zoomed up 3.27 per cent at Tk 151.70.

Keya Cosmetics featured a turnover of Tk 203 million, or 1.88 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price advanced 1.78 per cent to close at Tk 17.10 each.

The turnover of GP was Tk 201 million, grabbing 1.86 per cent of the day's total turnover. The lone listed mobile phone company's share price closed down 1.18 per cent at Tk 374.80.

Prime Bank featured a turnover of Tk 199 million, which was 1.84 per cent of the day's total transaction. The bank's share price settled at Tk 24.20, remaining unchanged over the previous session.

Mercantile Bank was also included in the top ten turnover chart, with shares of Tk 194 million changing hands. The bank's share price shed 0.41 per cent to close at Tk 24.30.
