Vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsule campaign begins in dists tomorrow

MAGURA, Aug 03: A total of 1.0 million children aged from zero to five years will be fed vitamin A plus capsules in the district during the National Vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign on Saturday.

Civil Surgeon Munshi Sadullah said this while addressing a journalists' orientation programme arranged by Magura civil surgeon's office at its conference room.

Civil surgeon office sources said of the total, 1,02,377 children aged from six to 11 months will be given blue capsules and 8,99,908 children aged from 12 to 59 months will be fed red capsules.

A total of 995 centres will be set up in the district - seven permanent, 936 outreach, 16 mobile and 36 additional centres. Some 254 workers, 1990 volunteers and 135 supervisors will be deployed to make the campaign successful.

A total of 32 journalists took part in the orientation programme.

Our Rangpur correspondent says : A total of 3, 91, 642 children below five years of age will be administered vitamin 'A' Plus capsules on August 5 in the district. The campaign will begin at 8.00am and continue till 4.00 pm on the occasion of National Vitamin 'A' plus campaign-2017.

This was disclosed at a press conference held at Sadar Hospital auditorium in the city by civil surgeon Dr Abu Mohammad Zakirul Islam today (Thursday).

A total of 1,931 temporary centres will be set up in the district to carry out the programme.

Besides, a total of 969 field-level health workers, 395 supervisors and 4,824 volunteers will work at the centres for administering vitamin 'A' plus capsules to children.

The civil surgeon sought cooperation of the mass media, parents, public representatives and civil society members to make the campaign a success.

Our Pabna Correspondent adds: A meeting on administering vitamin A plus capsule (1st round) was held at the auditorium of civil surgeon office on Wednesday.

Civil Surgeon Dr Md Tahazzel Hossain presided over the meeting. Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr KAM Abu Jafar, Medical Officer Dr Md Rahim Uddin, District Nutrition Support Officer Md Nuruzzaman, former president of Pabna Press Club Robiul Islam were present as special guests. Md Robiul Islam, district EPI, superintendent of the civil surgeon office conducted the meeting. The campaign will start on August 5.

Meanwhile, BSS adds: In Netrakona, nearly 0.4 million children aged from zero to five years will be fed vitamin 'A' plus capsules on Saturday.

A total of 2,064 temporary centres will be set up in the district to carry out the programme.

Moreover, a total of 944 field-level health workers and 4,528 volunteers will work at the centres for administering vitamin 'A' plus capsules to children.

Civil surgeon of Netrakona Dr Tajul Islam Khan said the district and upazila level health department officials would carry out special drives in next four days since August 05 as a follow up programme through visiting door-steps of the residential houses to cover up dropped out children.

Apart from this, over a dozen of mobile teams of the health department officials will be engaged to feed vitamin 'A' capsules to the children at rail stations, bus terminals and ferry ghats as well as other places of the district to avert drop outs, he said.

In Rajshahi, around 60,533 children under five years of age will be administered vitamin 'A' Plus capsules in the city.

The campaign will begin at 8am at 384 centres, including 343 permanent and 41 mobile ones, simultaneously and continue till 4pm.

Over 784 volunteers including family welfare assistants and health assistants would be engaged for giving vitamin 'A' Plus capsules to the

children.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) authority revealed this at a pre-campaign press conference here Thursday afternoon.

City Mayor Mosaddique Hossain Bulbul, Panel Mayor Nurun Nahar and ward councilors Momtaj Mohal and Nasira Khanom addressed the press conference.
