Four banks among top transaction chart

Top ten traded companies, including four banks, captured nearly 30 per cent transaction of the premier bourse Wednesday while LankaBangla Finance topped the chart.

Analysts said investors, who were waiting for LankaBangla's rights, released their holdings following the news of non-approval of the application for issuance of rights share.

"Bangladesh Securities & Exchange Commission (BSEC) is not in a position to consider the application for issuance of rights share of LankaBangla due to non-compliance of a BSEC notification dated November 22, 2011," according to a web posting on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Wednesday.

Earlier, LankaBangla submitted application to the securities' regulator to issue one rights share for existing two shares at an issue price of Tk 10 per share.

The total transaction on the DSE stood at nearly Tk 12.39 billion on the day, which was 0.16 per cent higher than the previous day's value of Tk 12.37 billion.

LankaBangla Finance, C&A Textile, Saif Powertec, Tung Hai Knitting, Fu-Wang Food, City Bank, BBS Cables, IFIC Bank, Mercantile Bank and ONE Bank were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE.

Of them, share price of eight companies rose up to 5.0 per cent, one faced correction while one remained unchanged over the previous day.

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 16.31 million shares of LankaBangla were traded, generating a turnover of more than 915 million, which was 7.39 per cent of the premier bourse's total turnover value.

The company's share price hovered between Tk 55.50 and Tk 57.90, before closing at Tk 56.30 on the day, losing 3.60 per cent over the previous session.

C&A Textile followed next, with shares of Tk 385 million changing hands, capturing 3.12 per cent of the day's total turnover. The company's share closed at Tk 13.10, advancing 3.96 per cent over the previous session.

Saif Powertec emerged as third with shares of Tk 344 million changing hands. It was 2.78 per cent of the total turnover value. The company's share price rose 2.34 per cent to close at Tk 48.10 each.

Tung Hai Knitting notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 337 million changing hands, which was 2.72 per cent of the turnover. The company's share price closed at Tk 18.90, soaring 5.0 per cent.

Fu-Wang Food featured a turnover of Tk 317 million which was 2.56 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price advanced 2.74 per cent to close at Tk 26.20 each.

The turnover of City Bank was Tk 304 million, capturing 2.45 per cent of the day's total value. The bank's share price closed at Tk 42.60, remaining unchanged over the previous day.

BBS Cables, which made its share trading debut on Monday, featured a turnover of Tk 303 million, which was 2.44 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price advanced 0.73 per cent to close at Tk 82.70 each.

The turnover of IFIC Bank was Tk 286 million, grabbing 2.30 per cent of the day's total turnover. The bank's share price closed at Tk 19.50, gaining 4.27 per cent.

Mercantile Bank featured a turnover of Tk 261 million, which was 2.10 per cent of the day's total transaction. The bank's share price rose 3.38 per cent to close at Tk 24.40.

ONE Bank was also included in the top ten turnover chart with shares of Tk 253 million changing hands. The bank's share price closed at Tk 24.50 each, advancing 1.65 per cent over the previous session.
