PM asks to preserve archaeological sites of Dhaka

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to preserve and renovate the archaeological sites in Dhaka city.

She gave the directives in a meeting with the senior officials of the Cultural Affairs Ministry, Archaeology Department and Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) at her office, reports UNB.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said Archeology Department Director General Altaf Hossain gave a PowerPoint presentation on the present condition of the 93 archaeological sites in the city.

The Prime Minister gave directives on which sites should be demolished and which should be protected and renovated considering their historical importance, he said.

PM's Principal Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, PMO Senior Secretary Suraiya Begum, Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Ibraheem Hosein Khan, Public Works Secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker and Rajuk Chairman Md Abdur Rahman were present at the meeting.
