Ten cos grab 24pc transactions at prime bourse

The top ten traded companies, including four banks, grabbed over 24 per cent of transaction values at the country's premier bourse on Tuesday, with the City Bank making its way to the top of the list.

Brokers observed that investors continued to add fresh stake in banking issues to their portfolios, as most of the banks listed with the stock market have shown positive earnings in the second quarter (Q2) of 2017, compared to corresponding period in the previous year.

The total transaction on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) stood at Tk 12.37 billion -- nearly 6.10 per cent up from the previous day's value of Tk 11.66 billion.

Apart from the City Bank, Tuesday's most active shares were C&A Textile, LankaBangla Finance, ONE Bank, Premier Bank, Fu-Wang Food, Fortune Shoes, National Bank, Grameenphone and IFAD Autos.

Of them, share prices of six companies climbed up to 7.69 per cent while four saw corrections up to 1.61 per cent.

According to the statistics available with the DSE, about 11.41 million shares of City Bank were traded, generating a turnover of Tk 481 million, making up 3.88 per cent of the total turnover.

The bank's share price hovered between Tk 41.20 and Tk 43.10, before closing at Tk 42.60, advancing 1.43 per cent over the previous session.

On Sunday, one of the directors of the bank expressed his intention to buy 10,00,000 shares of the bank at the prevailing market price through stock exchange within next 30 working days.

The bank's consolidated earnings per share (EPS) was Tk 1.51 for April-June period in 2017, remaining unchanged from the same period a year ago.

Listed in 1986, the bank disbursed 24 per cent cash dividend for the year ending on December 31, 2016. In 2015, the bank gave 22 per cent cash dividend to its shareholders.

C&A Textile secured the second spot on the top ten list, with shares of Tk 458 million changing hands, capturing 3.70 per cent of the day's total turnover. The company's share settled at Tk 12.60, up 7.6 per cent from the previous session.

LankaBangla emerged the third, with shares of Tk 381 million changing hands, contributing 3.08 per cent to the total turnover value. The company's share price fell 1.02 per cent to close at Tk 58.40 each.

ONE Bank notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 257 million changing hands, accounting for 2.08 per cent of the turnover. The company's share price ended at Tk 24.10, inching up 0.83 per cent.

Premier Bank featured a turnover of Tk 254 million or 2.05 per cent of the total transaction. The bank's share price gained 3.62 per cent to finish at Tk 14.30 each.

The turnover of Fu-Wang Food was Tk 235 million, capturing 1.90 per cent of the day's total value. The company's share price closed at Tk 25.50, soaring 5.37 per cent from the previous session.

Fortune Shoes featured a turnover of Tk 218 million, or 1.76 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price advanced 0.86 per cent to settle at Tk 57.20 each.

The turnover of National Bank was Tk 217 million, grabbing 1.75 per cent of the day's total turnover. The bank's share price closed at Tk 12.20, shedding 1.61 per cent.

GP saw a turnover of Tk 209 million, which was 1.68 per cent of the day's total transaction. The lone listed mobile company's share price settled down 0.05 per cent at Tk 379.30.

IFAD Autos was also among the top ten companies, with shares of Tk 205 million changing hands. The company's share price finished at Tk 205, losing 0.87 per cent over the previous session.
