Commercial cattle fattening increasing before Eid-ul-Azha in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Aug 1: Commercial fattening of cattle is increasing in Nilphamari district year on year. Commercial fattening of cattle is a development project of the Department of Livestock of the country.

Huge number of youths have taken short term course training in the Department of Youth Development in the district and the result of such training is being depicted in the villages now.

Sources said, for ensuing Eid-ul-Azha 60,000 cattle including bull, goat and ram are being fattened in 60 union parishads (UPs) of six upazilas in the district and 15,000 enthusiastic farmers are engaged in it. Out of the total number 40,000 are bulls and bullocks and 20,000 rams and goats.

In the meantime concern officials of district and upazila livestock office are making close contact with the cattle farmers and providing medicine and need based advice to them. The cattle farmers also are being advised not to use harmful medicine for quick fattening of the animals.

While contacted district Livestock officer Shah Jalal Khondokar said, six monitoring teams have been formed in six upazilas of the district comprising veterinarians and so on to help be cattle farmers.

Sources said with the increase of cattle farming and cattle trade, purchase and sale of fodder have also increased substantially culminating in flourishing of the trade.

While contacted Azizul Islam a cattle farmer of Badiar Moore area of Itakhola UP of Sadar Upazila said price of fodder is very high in this year in comparison to that of the last year. He said he purchased five bulls at a price of Tk 0.1 million which he is expecting to sale at a total price of Tk 0.2 million and earn a profit of Tk 75,000 at least excluding expenditure. He also said he used to gain profit every year by fattening cattle and more and more people are finding a self employed job in it.
