Bangladesh court sentences woman to life for abusing minor domestic worker

A Dhaka court has ordered life in prison for a woman for abusing her minor domestic worker.

On Sept 23, 2013, police recovered an unconscious girl from a dustbin in the Dhaka Cantonment area.

Eleven-year-old Aduri was rushed to the hospital with several wounds on her body.

A police investigation later found that her employer, housewife Naorin Jahan Nodi, had assaulted the girl the previous day, slashing her with a knife and burning her with a hot iron before dumping her body, according to bdnews24.com.

Police pressed charges on Nodi and her mother Israt Jahan after the girl's family filed a case.

On Tuesday, Dhaka's Third Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal convicted Nodi. She has been also fined by Tk 100,000.

The court, however, acquitted the mother of the convict.
