Viral fever, other seasonal diseases take pandemic turn in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ July 15: Viral fever and other seasonal diseases have taken a pandemic turn in Gopalganj city and its adjacent areas here from last two weeks.

The number of patients suffering from viral fever rises at different public hospitals as well as private clinics and doctor's chambers in Gopalganj city.

According to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital sources, about 250 patients with viral fever were admitted to the hospital in last five days. During this time about 500 viral patients were given treatment from outdoor.

The sources said, people in the rural areas were more vulnerable to the diseases than those in the urban areas, where children are the worst sufferers. The highly contagious viral fever with high temperature coupled with cough, sneezing, headache, ophthalmia and a bone-breaking pain all over the body weakens the patients. People affected with viral fever having 102-105 degree Fahrenheit temperature with severe headache.

No death has however been reported as yet. The sales of paracetamol and antibiotics, which controls body temperature have increased tremendously at pharmaceuticals in the district. But the medicines have no rapid work on this diseases, sources said.

Dr. Nazmul Haque Lasker, Residential Medical Officer (RMO), Gopalganj Sadar Hospital told the F.E. that he attributing the spread of the diseases to change in season and severe hot weather. In most cases medicines are not required to treat the patients attacked by the fever as simple treatment for a few days in the usual remedy for the diseases. "We also prescribing paracetamol, complete bed rest, liquid food and intake of sufficient water," he said.
