Don’t isolate me from people with security measures: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday asked the Special Security Force (SSF) personnel to be careful so that security measures do not isolate her from the common people as they are at the centre of all power.

"It’s not possible to serve people being isolated from them, we’re accountable to people as public representatives…you’ll have to be careful about it,” she said.

The Prime Minister was addressing a function marking the 31sth founding anniversary of SSF at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), reports UNB.

She mentioned that power belongs to people as stated in the Constitution. “In the parliamentary form of government, every activity of the government is formulated and implemented for the welfare of people.”

The Prime Minister asked the SSF members to coordinate between the desire of people and their duties.

“It’ll be commendable on your part to ensure the highest level of security with professionalism by keeping the VIPs’ normal pro-people activities, not creating any distance from mass people,” she said.

She said the SSF personnel should consider the public relations of the VIPs with utmost importance.

The Prime Minister said the SSF members should consider with importance about the attainment of strength of character, higher discipline, honesty, responsibility and human qualities alongside improving professional skills.

She asked them to maintain good relations, close contact and coordination among all associate agencies for ensuring foolproof security circle.

The Prime Minister said still there are conspiracies by a section of anti-liberation forces to block the country’s progress and destroy its image. “Bangladesh must move forward facing all the plots of the evil forces as it did in the past.”

She renewed her pledge to change the fate of people saying the power is not for enjoyment as it is a responsibility towards people to ensure their welfare.

The Prime Minister mentioned that political parties ascend to power taking public mandate for a particular period of time and the MPs are elected only for five years, and she will also to go to people after every five years to seek their support.

Considering this reality, she said, her party goes to people to explain how much of its election pledges and economic policies are implemented.

About terrorism, Hasina reiterated terrorism and violent extremism are now global problems, which are thought to have been created due to conflicts originated from the differences of opinion and ideology.

Referring to the July 1, 2016 terror attack on a Gulshan café last year, the Prime Minister highly praised the armed forces, police, Rab and other forces who dealt with the situation and rescued the hostages alive in just 12 hours. “Such a successful operation in a so short time is rare in the world.”

About the anti-terrorism campaign, the Prime Minister said, a massive awareness has already been created among people against such social menaces following her government's efforts through involving people from various disciplines and professions.

Referring to the allegations on Padma Bridge construction, Hasina said it was a deep-rooted conspiracy against her family and government as well as the people of Bangladesh.

She also elaborated unbridled corruption, looting, killing of the leaders and workers of Awami League by the BNP Jamaat nexus during 2001-2006 period as well as their arson attacks, vandalism and burning people to death during 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Earlier, Director General of SSF Major General Major General Md Shafiqur Rahman delivered the welcome address.

PM’s adviser Major General (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique was present on the dais.

The chiefs of the three services, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the PMO Secretary, the Press Secretary to the Prime Minister and senior officials of the PMO were, among others, present.
