Outbound travel up in 11 months

Outbound travel from the country increased significantly during the first 11 months of the past fiscal year (FY17).

The latest statistics, available with Bangladesh Bank, showed that payments for travel stood at Tk 484.3 million in July-May period of FY17 while the amount was Tk 369.2 million in the same period of FY16.

Thus the payments for outbound travel jumped by 31.18 per cent during the period under review.

Central bank statistics also showed that inbound travel in Bangladesh also increased significantly during the period under review.

Some $264.0 million were spent as travel expense in the first 11 months of FY17 which was $144.7 million in the same period of FY16.

As a result, income from travel increased by 82.45 per cent during the period under review.
