Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has paid tributes to the martyred freedom fighters and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Sirisena, who arrived in Dhaka on Thursday morning, went to National Memorial at Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka city to pay homage to the freedom fighters, who embraced martyrdom during the country's Great War of Independence in 1971.

He left the National Memorial around 4pm for Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city’s Dhanmondi area to pay homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The Sri Lankan president placed floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu and stood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of respect to the architect of Bangladesh, according to BSS.
