REB to lower systems loss target this fiscal year

The system loss target for the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) will be set at 11.10 per cent in the current fiscal year (FY), which was 11.45 per cent in the just concluded fiscal year.

The target will be decided at the BREB's General Managers' Conference-2017, which is scheduled to be held on Friday at the BREB head office, said a statement of the Board.

Chief coordinator of SDG of the Prime Minister's Office Abul Kalam Azad will attend the two-day conference as the chief guest.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid will give directives at the conference.

The conference will be attended, among others, by the secretaries of the power division, director general of power cell, member of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), managing directors of Rural Power Company Limited (RPCL), Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd. (PGCB) and West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd (WZPDCL).

Chairman of the BREB Major General Moin Uddin will present a power-point presentation on financial, technical and managerial issues of the Board.

A new APA target for FY 2017-18 will be set and the last year's APA achievement will also be reviewed at the conference, the statement said.

The BREB has now 19.2 million customers and 0.351m kilometres distribution line, it noted.
