Drug addict son kills mother in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, July 12: A 'drug edict' man allegedly killed his mother in Koalaghat area of the district town on Tuesday night. The victim was identified as Jayeda Begum, 45, wife of Sharif Arab Ali of the town. Locals said Sharif Hossain, 30, a rickshaw-puller, used to quarrel with his mother Jayeda and beat her as she refused to give him money for buying drugs. Around 8 pm on Tuesday, Sharif had an altercation with his mother over the issue. At one stage, he first hit her in the head with a brick and later chopped her with a dao indiscriminately, leaving her injured critically. She was taken to Chandpur General Hospital where doctors declared her dead, said officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station Waliullah Oli. On information, police rushed in and arrested Sharif.    — UNB

Police recover body of elderly man in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, July 12 : Police recovered a body of an elderly man from a paddy field at Dighilia Kalibari village in Kotalipara upazia on Tuesday noon, three days after he went missing. M Kamrul Faruque, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara police station, said, Azgar Ali Sheikh, 65, son of Sonamuddin Sheikh of the village, went missing on Sunday after he went out from his home. Locals spotted the body in a paddy field nearby his home and informed police on Tuesday.      — UNB

RAB rescue missing girl after five months in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, July 12: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued a teen aged girl after five months of her missing and arrested one woman in this connection on Tuesday afternoon. The arrested was identified as Mosammat Morjina, a human trafficker of Nobogram Koroitola village in Manikgonj district. The missing girl is identified as Sabina Yasmin, 16, hailing from Saltha upazila of the district. A team of RAB led by additional superintendent of police (ASP) and also the company commander of RAB-8 Roish Uddin conducted the raid around 4pm at a brothel near Haji Shariatuallah Bazar in the town and rescued the missing girl. She was missing around five months ago.     — BSS

DNC arrests youth with Yaba tablets   

BRAHMANBARIA, July 12 : Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) here arrested a young man along with 1,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from Sohagpur village in Ashuganj upazila on Tuesday afternoon. The arrestee was identified as Masum Miah, 25, son of Shaheed Miah, a resident of Zahiruddin Para of the village. Dewan Mohammad Zillur Rahman, inspector of DNC Brahmanbaria, said that on secret information, a team of DNC raided on Masum's house and arrested him along with 400 pieces of Yaba pills. Later, the team also recovered 600 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets from the room of his brother Hanif.     — UNB
