CDA pays compensation directly to land owners

CHITTAGONG, Jul 10: The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Monday distributed cheques worth Tk 250 million among the real owners of land it acquired for construction of Bakolia Access Road Project here.

CDA chairman Abdus Salam handed over the cheques to 24 recipients at a function in the city.

The programme was organised to handover the compensation money directly to the actual land owners, apparently to avoid deception by the vested interest groups.

Mr Salam pointed out that there are allegations about deceiving the real owners of land due to interference of the corrupt middlemen. "So, this time, I have decided to handover the money to the actual deserving people," he said.

The CDA sources said all the land owners had earlier registered their lands for the project, which was earlier taken for the sake of easy communication between Bakolia and South Chittagong.

The project worth Tk 2.06 billion was approved in the ECNEC in September last year.

The CDA will construct the one and half kilometre four-lane road from Chandanpura on the Sirajuddowla Road to Shah Amanat Third Karnaphuli Bridge via Boger Beel of Bakolia.

The road was included in the CDA Master Plan 1995, but was not implemented for different reasons.

Now, the CDA has completed acquisition of the land to be used for the road and the construction work is scheduled to start in the third week of this month, sources said.
