RANGPUR, July 11: Sufferings of the middle and low-income groups of people have mounted on account of soaring price of green chilli in different kitchen markets in Rangpur district during last couple of weeks.

According to sources green chilli price increased drastically due to scarce supply in markets caused by heavy rainfall and flood water that occurred during last couple of weeks caused massive havoc to chilli fields at different areas under the region.

As a result production of the same was seriously affected, sources further alleged.

Presently the most essential spicy item is being sold at Tk 80 to Tk 100 per kg in retail markets against its previous price of Tk 40 to Tk 50 in last month.

Talking to The Financial Express a number of sellers in Rangpur city markets alleged that in the wake of supply crunch chilli price has marked a sharp rise. So they have nothing to do in this regard. The situation may continue till next month, they added.
