Exporting skilled manpower

PLENTY of workers have been going abroad from Bangladesh for employment. They have been sending a good amount of remittances every month to the country that is contributing significantly to our economic growth. Most of the labourers, who go for employment in foreign countries, do manual jobs as they do not possess technical or professional skill and knowledge.

That is why they are earning less. There are many manpower-exporting countries which mostly export professional and technically skilled manpower and earn much more. Bangladesh needs to set its focus on this area, that is, on exporting professionally skilled man power. Sending physicians is a good option. But to do that, Bangladesh needs to produce more medical professionals. On the other hand, since the government is committed to provide health services to people in both rural and urban areas, there is an imperative need for plenty of doctors. It is becoming increasingly difficult to have doctors for health centres located in the countryside. The problem can be addressed if more medical institutes are established. It is therefore necessary to set up medical colleges at the district level under the initiative of the government.

Thereafter in the second phase, seven medical universities may be set up at seven divisional headquarters for post-graduate level courses and also to provide higher education for MBBS Doctors. These universities should also offer specialised trainings from time to time to help doctors upgrade their skills and knowledge.
