Knowledge of financial literacy can ensure EPZ workers welfare

Young women working at export oriented manufacturing industries significantly contribute to country’s economy and a considerable portion of them are employed in the Export Processing Zones (EPZs), said speakers at a training programme in Chittagong. 

Speakers said it at the closing ceremony of Training of Trainers (ToT) for Chittagong and Karnaphuli EPZs social councillors on Monday, says a press release. 

The speakers also stressed on these workers financial literacy for a better contribution in economy.

The two-day training programme was arranged under the project “Understanding finance by the youth.

MRDI under the CSR initiative with HSBC is implementing the project in partnership with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA). 

Speaking at the ceremony Md. Ashraful Kabir, Chief Engineer & Project Director Capacity Building of BEPZA appreciated the initiative and called for greater engagement of the corporate sector in CSR activities that directly address the welfare of the EPZ workers. 

“We feel delighted that the effort will contribute to build financially informed workers” he added.

General Managers of CEPZ and KEPZ were also present in the closing session. 

A total of 22 social councillors participated in the training. MRDI will organise similar ToT for Dhaka EPZ social counselors.
