Bangladesh gets new variety of mango ‘Ranga Sindur’

A new variety of mango developed at an orchard of Rajshahi, in Bangladesh has drawn attention to the mango-researchers in the country.

This variety of young mango looks vermillion in colour and the colour turned more bright and attractive whenever it is ripened.

For its unique colour, the mango has been named locally as ‘Ranga Sindur’( Coloured vermilion).

Mango researchers in Rajshahi claimed, there was no existence of such coloured mango anywhere in the country.

Moreover, not only in colour but also in quality, the mango is unparalleled, according to a report by our correspondent.

The mango was first detected in an orchard in Rajshahi and this is for the first time the mango-tree flowered and bore 25 fruits.

Owner of the mango tree, Additional Deputy-Director of Agriculture Extension Department of Rajshahi Monjurul Haque has claimed, so far this mango was the most brightly crimson coloured fruit in the country.

Monjurul Haque further mentioned, recently the mango has started to ripen in his tree.

Since there was no name of the mango, he posted a photo of the mango on his facebook seeking its name.

There were several proposed names of which he choose the name ‘Ranga Sindur’.

Now he would submit an application to the concerned government official to register the name as a copyright.
