HAMBURG – Minister of State and cabinet member Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf announced on Saturday the Kingdom’s intention to host the G20 summit in 2020, in line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported Saturday, according to Saudi Gazette.

Al-Assaf said: “The leaders of G20 member countries welcomed the Kingdom’s hosting of the G20 summit in 2020. We have started work as of now to organize the G20 summit meeting in the Kingdom, God willing, with follow up by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier, minister of defense and chairman of the Council for Economic and Development Affairs (CEDA).”

In another statement at the conclusion of the G20 Summit, Minister of Finance Muhammad Al-Jadaan said the Kingdom led by Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman communicated with G20 countries to support its request to host the G20 summit in 2020.

The G20 declaration said that Argentina will host the summit in 2018, Japan in 2019 and Saudi Arabia in 2020.

Al-Jadaan said the Kingdom’s winning approval to host the G20 summit meetings reflects its global political and economic weight, valuing its role and confidence in its capability to organize such important meetings.

The Kingdom is looking forward to hosting the G20 summit as an opportunity to highlight the Kingdom’s role in this international group, to continue its policy in cooperation with the international community in facing the challenges before the world economy, and shedding light on the important issues in order to achieve a strong, balanced and sustainable global economic growth.

Saudi Arabia has a proven track record of hosting important global summits. In May, the Kingdom hosted the historic Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh with the attendance of US President Donald Trump and 55 leaders of Arab Muslim countries.
