A caring society for the elderly people

The number of elderly people is growing and currently, people above 60 years of age constitute around 10 per cent of our total population. It had been predicted that by 2050 the number will be around 20 per cent. In many families, the elderly people are being subjected to negligence and they are spending their time alone in distress. I know many well-to-do families where children are living abroad and their parents are living in Bangladesh at the mercy of domestic aids. Usually, women in old age suffer more from uncertainty and loneliness, as they do not often go out of their houses and socialise. Whereas everyone is busy and does not have enough time to inquire about the close elderly relations, a feeling of gloom and depression take over and they feel isolated and lonely. We should not forget that every one of us will face old age and so we must be very caring and understanding towards the elderly people and create an elderly-friendly society.
