Top 10 cos account for 24pc of DSE transaction

Top ten traded companies Tuesday grabbed nearly 24 per cent turnover value on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) while Regent Textile topped the chart for the second day in a row.

The total transaction on the DSE stood at Tk 6.45 billion on the day, which was 19 per cent higher than the previous day's value of Tk 5.41 billion.

Regent Textile, LankaBangla Finance, Paramount Textile, Argon Denims, Nurani Dyeing, Aamra Technologies, Brac Bank, Beximco Pharma, BDCOM Online and Beximco were the most-active shares in terms of value on the DSE.

According to statistics available with the DSE, some 8.99 million Regent Textile shares were traded, generating a turnover of nearly Tk 269 million, which was 4.17 per cent of the day's total transaction value.

The textile maker's share price hovered between Tk 28.70 and Tk 31.30, before closing at Tk 30.60 on the day, registering an increase of 5.88 per cent over the previous day.

Regent Textile, which was listed on the Dhaka bourse in 2015, disbursed 10 per cent cash and 5.0 per cent stock dividend for the 18 months period that ended on June 30, 2016.

The company has also reported (un-audited) third quarter earnings per share (EPS) of Tk 0.30 for January-March period of 2017 as against Tk 0.27 for the same quarter in the previous year.

In nine months for July, 2016-March, 2017, EPS was Tk 0.83 as against Tk 0.68 for July, 2015-March, 2016.

The company's paid-up capital is Tk 1.15 billion and authorised capital is Tk 1.50 billion, while the total number of securities is 115.50 million.

Sponsor-directors own 54.54 per cent stake in the company, while institutional investors own 7.76 per cent, and general public 37.70 per cent as on May 31, 2017, the DSE data shows.

LankaBangla followed next, with shares of Tk 182 million changing hands, capturing 2.82 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The company's share closed at Tk 53.40, advancing 2.50 per cent over the previous session.

Paramount Textile emerged as third with shares of Tk 161 million changing hands. It was 2.50 per cent of the total turnover value. The company's share price fell 0.27 per cent to close at Tk 37.50 each.

Argon Denims notched the fourth spot, with shares of Tk 144 million changing hands, contributing 2.23 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The company's share price closed at Tk 36.80, losing 1.34 per cent.

Nurani Dyeing featured a turnover of Tk 143 million which was 2.22 per cent of the day's total transaction. The company's share price closed at Tk 23, gaining 1.77 per cent.

The turnover of Aamra Technologies was Tk 140 million, capturing 2.17 per cent of the day's total value. The company's share price closed at Tk 41.50, advancing 2.98 per cent.

Brac Bank featured a turnover of Tk 122 million, which was 1.89 per cent of the day's total value. The bank's share price rose 2.46 per cent to close at Tk 78.90 each.

The turnover of Beximco Pharma was Tk 119 million, capturing 1.84 per cent of the day's total turnover value. The company's share price closed at Tk 113.50, gaining 0.71 per cent.
