Veg prices soaring across Bogra

Our Correspondent

BOGRA, June 20: Prices of vegetable items have been soaring across the district from the beginning of Ramadan.

Sources said Tk 5.0 to Tk 10 was increased in each kg of almost every vegetable due to high demand. In spite of bumper production, prices of most of the items are beyond the capacity of small and middle-income group.

Traders of small and large kitchen markets and also the makeshift shops on the both sides of roads and highways have been making a massive profit.

Market sources said prices of bitter gourd, brinjal, radish, potato, arum, teasel gourd and okra have increased more than 20 per cent during last one month in the retail market. The rate is expected to be normal after a week.

While visiting different kitchen markets of the district this correspondent has noticed that the traders do not maintain price-charts. They demand more against every vegetable item from their actual rate.

Consumer Ruhul Kuddus of Fotte Ali Bazar said he purchased 2.0 kgs of fresh brinjal at Tk 70 Monday which was Tk 60 before Ramadan.

He urged the authority concerned to take immediate measures to keep the market under control.

President of Bogra Chamber of Commerce and Industry Masudur Rahman Milon said a number of businessmen take the opportunity to make huge profit during Ramadan.
