DSEX crosses 5,500-mark in early trading

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed upward trend in early trading Tuesday as investors took position on some large-cap issues amid post-Eid expectation.

Brokers said as pre-Eid sale pressure faded away, the optimistic investors took position on sector specific large-cap stocks amid post-Eid expectation.

Only two trading sessions are left before Eid vacation.

Following the previous day’s marginal gain, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened higher amid increased turnover.

Within first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse advanced 25 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 22 points at 11.00am.

After first hour of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,511 points, advancing 32 per cent while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse rose 40 points when the report was filed at 11:00am.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the DSE, went up by 32 points or 0.58 per cent to stand at 5,511 points.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips rose 11 points or 0.54 per cent to stand at 2044 points. The Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 8.15 points or 0.64 per cent to reach at 1270 points at 11:00am.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at Tk 1.29 billion on the DSE at 11:00am.

Regent Textile topped the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 92 million changing hands till then, closely followed by Aamra Technologies Tk 82 million, Nurani Dyeing Tk 62 million, Agni Systems Tk 57 million and National Tubes Tk 44 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 179 advanced, 40 declined and 45 issues remained unchanged till 11:00am.

The port city bourse, the CSE also saw upward trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – gaining 40 points to stand at 10,309 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 77 gained, 29 declined and 19 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 78 million.
