Road digging snaps 3,100 phone lines in city

Around 3,100 telephone and Internet connections of Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL) have been snapped in several areas of the capital due to road digging work by different agencies.

The subscribers of Khilgaon, Kakrail, Shantinagar and surrounding areas under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) were affected, according to a statement issued by the BTCL on Monday.

It said underground telephone cables got snapped during the road digging work by the DSCC and the Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA).

Of the total affected lines, 50 connections in Khilgaon, 65 in Banasree, 210 in Nandipara and Goran, 150 in Khilgaon B Block were damaged due to drainage construction work of the Dhaka WASA.

The development work of the DSCC caused the same trouble to 760 BTCL subscribers in Kakrail, 680 in Shantinagar, 480 in Fakirapool, 300 in Shiddheswari, 295 in Moghbazar and 122 in Sayedabad areas.

The BTCL regretted the inconvenience caused to the subscribers for service disruption, the statement added.
