1,300 hectares of land under arum farming in Bogra

BOGRA, June 19: Arum cultivators of all the 12 upazilas of the district are expecting a good market price this season.

According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Bogra, arum farming has increased in recent times in the area as it is proved more profitable to the growers. A large number of farmers have brought around 1,300 hectares of land under the cultivation of arum.

Each kg of arum is generally sold at Tk 50 to Tk 60 in the retail markets.

"Due to favourable weather condition, I am expecting around 40 maunds of yield from 56 decimals of land this current season", said farmer Kamrul Hasan of Gabtoly upazila. He further said, "I got 35 maunds of production from 34 decimals of land last year."

Another peasant Hakin Islam of Sobul village under Dupchanchia upazila said he has brought one bigha of land under the farming of the vegetable at Tk 12,000. He expects a net profit of Tk 30,000 from it.

Sub-assistant agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said the farmers of the district will start harvesting the vegetable from July.
