Trade in services crosses $8 billion

The country’s trade in services with the rest of the world crossed $8 billion in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (FY17).

Latest statistics of the central bank showed that overall trade in services stood at $8.79 billion in July-April period of the current fiscal year.

The value was $7.80 billion in the same period of the past fiscal year.

Like merchandise trade, Bangladesh also suffers a deficit in the service trade with the rest of the world.

The trade gap in services stood at $2.72 billion during the period under review while the value was $2.10 billion in July-April period of FY16.

Trade in services include travel, transport, financial activities and other services.
