India to welcome over 150,000 Eid shoppers from Bangladesh

NEW DELHI, June 18 ( As Eid is around the corner, a huge inflow of shoppers is expected in India from Bangladesh yet again. This time, India is likely to receive an estimated 150,000 shoppers from the neighbouring country.

Bangladesh shop owners' association chief Md Helal Uddin was quoted as saying that thousands of Bangladeshis rush to India or Singapore during Eid even though the local market is huge. He said over 150,000 people travelled to India last year during Eid for shopping. Interestingly, the Indian High Commission had to issue extra 100,000 visas ahead of Eid.

The report also quotes a journalist, Mizanur Rahman Sohel, who recently returned to Bangladesh from his shopping trip to India. He informed the Bangla Tribune, that the number of Bangladeshi buyers in Kolkata is increasing every day as Eid-al-Fitr nears.

In Kolkata, shops in Muslim-dominated areas at Mirza Ghalib Street, Mallikbazar, Belgachhia, New Market, Chitpur, Tallyganj, Entaly, Anowar Shah Road, Rajabazar, Park Circus, Metiaburuz, Khidirpur, Park Street, Chitpur's Zakaria Street, Dharmatola's Tipu Sultan mosque premises are recording brisk sales.

Noteworthy, many temporary shops have also been set up in various markets in Kolkata. Several big shops such as Big Bazar, Sree Leathers, Khadim, South City malls are also offering discount on certain products to the customers.
