Stocks witness slow trend in early trading

The prices of most of the shares on both bourses witnessed negative trend in early trading Sunday amid slow movement as investors remained cautious ahead of Eid festival.

Following the previous week’s mild correction, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) opened marginally lower amid thin participation of investors.

Within first 30 minutes of trading, the key index of the country’s prime bourse fell 0.21 points while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse lost 6.20 points at 10:30am.

After first hour of trading, DSEX, the prime index of the DSE stands at 5,467 points, losing 1.27 per cent while the Selective Category Index of port city bourse fell 13 points when the report was filed at 11:00am.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the DSE, went down by 1.27 points or 0.02 per cent to stand at 5,467 points, when the report was filed at 10:30am.

The DS30 index, comprising blue chips fell 1.14 points or 0.05 per cent to stand at 2030 points. However, the Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 0.60 points or 0.05 per cent to reach at 1263 points at 11:00am.

Turnover, the crucial indicator of the market, stands at Tk 1.17 billion on the DSE, when the report was filed at 11:00am.

Paramount Textile topped the turnover chart with shares worth Tk 141 million changing hands till then, followed by Nurani Dyeing Tk 108 million, Regent Textile Tk 78 million, BD Finance Tk 36 million and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Tk 32 million.

Of the issues traded till then, 100 advanced, 117 declined and 62 issues remained unchanged till 11:00am.

The port city bourse, the CSE also saw negative trend till then with its Selective Category Index – CSCX – falling 13 points to stand at 10,237 points, also at 11:00am.

Of the issues traded till then, 43 gained, 57 declined and 16 remained unchanged with a turnover value of Tk 60 million.
