Mobile courts fine bakeries Tk 0.66m in city

Several bakeries and food manufacturers were fined Tk 0.66 million in separate anti-adulteration drives in the city's Uttara, Malibag and Jatrabari areas on Thursday.

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a joint drive, led by executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam, fined Tk 0.5 million to cake and pastry shop Mr Baker.

The food chain was fined Tk 0.2 million for manufacturing and selling ghee-coated biscuits and toast biscuits without taking licence from BSTI, and Tk 0.3 million for storing date-expired cakes in its factory backyard.

In a separate drive, a mobile court, assisted by Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and led by executive magistrate Tanzila Kabir, fined Tk 50,000 to Al-Arabian Sweets and Bakery at Malibag Chowdhurypara for not mentioning expiry date on their manufactured cakes.

The same mobile court also fined Tk 10,000 to Pushti Dairy and Bakery for selling sweet yogurt without taking approval from BSTI.

In the city's Matuail and Jatrabari, a mobile court, formed with BSTI and Safe Food Authority personnel and led by BSTI field officer Mazharul Islam, fined Lucky Semai Factory Tk 0.1 million for manufacturing vermicelli and laccha semai in dirty and unhygienic place.
