Construction of Sheikh Hasina Bridge over Modhumoti nears completion

MAGURA, June 15: Construction of Sheikh Hasina Bridge over the Modhumoti river in the district is about to be completed.

Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), Magura, sources after completing the work the Tk 599 million project will connect Jangalia of Mohammadpur upazila in Magura and Alangkhali of Boalmari upazila under Faridpur. Around 90 per cent work has already been completed. The rest of work is expected to be finished within two months.

LGED, Magura executive engineer Meerza Md Eftekharul Ali said construction of the brigde is going on in full swing. Work on two link roads on the both sides of is also close to completion.

Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Sree Biren Shikder laid the foundation stone of the bridge in 2013. In 2014, the construction firm Max got the work order through tender. In March of the same year soil test for the construction of the bridge was performed. Then the construction work was started in April.

The bridge will reduce the distance between Mohammadpur upazila headquarters and capital city by 40 km. The communication network of Lohagara upazilla of Narail and Bagherpara upazilla of Jessore to Dhaka and Faridpur will now be easier.
