Two judges beaten up in Jamalpur allegedly by shopkeepers

Two judges have been beaten up allegedly by shopkeepers following an altercation in Jamalpur.

Police detained two of the shopkeepers over the incident that occurred at Mitali Market in Jamalpur town on Wednesday afternoon.

Jamalpur Sadar Police Station OC Nasimul Islam said the district's Senior Judicial Magistrate Waheduzzaman and Additional Judicial Magistrate ABM Golam Rasul engaged in an altercation with the shopkeepers while haggling for a bag at a shop, Singapore Leather House.

The shop's owner Moatahar Hossain and his two employees beat up the two judges at one stage of the altercation, the OC said.

Police later rescued the judges by charging batons at the time, OC Nasimul said.

Two of the shopkeepers, 'Mintu' and 'Ripon', were detained, he said.

The Jamalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry Director Md Yusuf Khan claimed 'outsiders' beat up the two judges, but 'some of the owners and shopkeepers' were also involved.
