Outbound travel surges

Outbound travel from the country surged in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year (FY17).

Central bank statistics showed that payment for outbound travel increased by 30.16 per cent in July-April period of the current fiscal year.

Total payment for the outbound travel stood at $439.3 million in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year, which was $337.5 million in the same period of FY16. 

On the other hand, receipts from the inbound travel increased by 83 per cent during the period under review. 

Bangladesh Bank data also showed that receipts from inbound travel stood at $242.2 million in July-April period of the current fiscal year, which was $132.3 million in the same period of the past fiscal year.
