Bangladesh family missing after London fire

A Bangladeshi family has remained missing since a massive fire gutted their apartment building in London.

Komru Miah, 90, lived in a flat of the Grenfell Tower with his wife, two sons and a daughter, their relatives have said, reports

At least six people died and scores were injured after fire raced through the 24-storey building with more than 150 apartments in the early hours of Wednesday.

Komru’s daughter Begum Tania spoke to her cousin Abdur Rahim, who lives in Chelsea, around 2:30am. She was pleading to be rescued, Rahim told

“I can still hear her pleas. She said they were all inside a bathroom and had no ways to escape. She said we should pray so that they don’t suffer as they die.”

The family moved into the ill-fated building about a year ago.

Komru’s elder son, Abdul Hakim, lives separately with his wife and children. His other two sons are Abdul Hamid and Abdul Hanif.

Rescuers, witnesses and hospital sources say the death toll may rise as about 60 people were injured and some residents were trapped inside the tower.

More than 50 taken to hospital

London Ambulance Service said more than 50 people had been taken to hospital. A witness told Reuters she feared not all the residents had escaped the fire. Some were evacuated in their pyjamas.

"I looked through the spy hole and I could see smoke everywhere and the neighbours are all there. There's a fireman shouting 'get down the stairs'," one of the block's residents, Michael Paramasivan, told BBC radio. "It was an inferno."

"As we went past the fourth floor it was completely thick black smoke. As we’ve gone outside I’m looking up at the block and it was just going up. It was like pyrotechnics. It was just unbelievable how quick it was burning."
