Newly-harvested Boro paddy starts appearing in Magura market

MAGURA, May 20: Boro cultivators of the districts have achieved a bumper production of the crop. They got some 0.13 million tonne of output this season.

DAE, Magura sources said 31,750 hectares of land were brought under the farming of the paddy variety.

Newly-harvested paddy has started appearing in the local kitchen markets.  Farmers are also happy with the price of the crop. Boro rice is being sold at Tk 900 to Tk 950 per maund.

Golam Reza, a farmer of Moghi village under Sadar upazila said he brought three bighas of land under the farming of Boro and got 55 maunds of production. He expects to make Tk 50,000 profit this year.

Moinul Hossein of Abalpur village under the upazila said a good number of cultivators had lost the interest in growing Boro due to its low rate. But present Boro price gives them a new hope.
