BNP calls protest over Khaleda office search

The BNP says it will hold processions across the country on Sunday to protest police's search of party chairperson Khaleda Zia's office.

Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the plans at a discussion after the two-hour search of her Gulshan office on Saturday morning.

Leaders and activists of the party's affiliate wings including Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal took out processions outside Khaleda's office during the search.

The protest plan was announced then by Juba Dal leaders.

"This search is cowardly, criminal and a part of a conspiracy by the Awami League government. We condemn this act," said Rizvi at the discussion held in Dhaka Reporters Unity.

"The BNP will hold protests across the country on Sunday.

Police began searching the house at Gulshan's Road-86 at 7:30am.

It was based on suspicion around a truck of books that arrived at the office two days ago, said members of the police team that conducted the search.
